Family sessions is so important and being well prepared will make the end result look great. Here are some tips to keep in mind while preparing.
What type of session? There are so many options. It could be anything from relaxed to very informal. You can dress up in a relaxed manner or in more formal clothes. How about doing your session indoors in your home. Or it could be done outside in a park or gardens. Maybe combine it with a picnic to make it more enjoyable for your kids and more relaxing. Whichever it might be, do something that you would feel comfortable with and make it easier for those who are involved.
What should we wear? Wear something comfortable and you also feel confident to wear. Depending on time of year, neutral colors looks best. Pastels always looks great. During winter reds and blues gives a warmer feel. Make sure the colors you are wearing compliment each other. Avoid bold patterns.Keep in mind that you might want to put these pictures on your walls, so make sure the colors work well together.
What time would be best? If your session is going to be outdoors later afternoon would be best. Why because the light is not as harsh as at midday. If your children is smaller we could still choose a shade spot outdoors to take nice photos. Or we could also do a studio session to make sure the light is just perfect but the background might be a little more plain then outdoors. Choose a time of day where everyone in your family is at their best. For smaller children mornings work better and maybe after they have taken a nap. Overall make sure everyone is well rested and fed.
Be prepared Now that you have gathered all these tips you can prepare well in advance. If possible have your hair and makeup done to make you feel at your best. If you arrive rushed and disorganized it will show in your photos and maybe be not as enjoyable because everything was not quite as you wanted it.
Let's have fun Get everyone on board including dad. Even though many of the dads would rather be somewhere else. You will be so glad you did have that photo session. Forget the word cheese lets get the most natural smile from your children as a strained smile never looks nice. Just be natural talk to your kids and have fun during the session, you know what will make them smile. Be in the moment, pick up your child toss them in the air. Give your wife a kiss, compliment each other this will allow me as the photographer to capture natural emotions between you as a family.
Looking forward to capturing some awesome memories with you and your family.
